CACHI
Located at parallel 65° south, at 2,280 m above sea level and
on the slope of the Nevado de Cachi – 6,720 m, this picturesque
place of prehispanic origin combines Indian and colonial architecture,
stone, adobe and cane.
CAFAYATE
It is the most important area of the valleys and was the place where
many Indian groups established. It is surrounded by vineyards in
the mouth of rivers Calchaqui and Santa Maria.
VALLES CALCHAQUÍES
With its spread houses, little towns and vineyard areas, the landscapes
and places for sports and adventure and the Puna rising on the west
make this trip through the valleys something wonderful and unforgettable.
TILCARA
It is the city with most cultural activity. El Pucará, a
fortified town built by the Omaguacas in precolombian times, is
its most important attraction. Its archeological museum, the artisans
and musicians and its incomparable surrounding attract people of
all the world.
SALTA
Distant 2hs from Buenos Aires, it is the starting point to begin
visiting the area. It is located at 1,200 m above sea level and
was founded in 1582 in the Valle de Lerma, and it has been the scenario
of very important historical events and counts with a huge colonial
patrimony. Most of these places are near the plaza 9 de Julio and
from the hill San Bernardo, you can have a wonderful view of the
city.
MOLINOS
This is the place where the house of the last realist Viceroy is
still maintained.
QUEBRADA
DE HUMAHUACA
This huge valley of 155 km has a great variety of colors, mountains
and heights (from 1,200 m to 4,000 m above sea level). It counts
with human establishments that date more than 10,000 years; the
population that we see today is perfectly integrated to the landscape
and there is an important cultural value in most of its small churches.
In the year 2003, it has been declared CULTURAL AND NATURAL PATRIMONY
OF HUMANITY.
HUMAHUACA, PURMAMARCA, IRUYA, UQUIA, HUACALERA, MAIMARA are some
or the towns where the magic of the Quebrada appears. |
