Distant
1 hour and 15
minutes from
Buenos Aires,
near the borders
of Paraguay,
Brazil and Argentina,
it is in one
of the most
attractive places
for those who
visit our country.
LAS CATARATAS
(The Waterfalls):
They are located
over the Iguazú
river, 20 kms
before its mouth
on Paraná
river, in the
Parque Nacional
Iguazú
(created in
1934), and surrounded
by 670 km2 of
virgin jungle,
where there
are more than
2000 plant species,
more than 400
kinds of birds
and various
types of animals
such as caymans,
jaguars, etc.
The Waterfalls
were discovered
in 1541 by Alvar
Nuñez
Cabeza de Vaca
and their name
is in Guaraní
language, and
it means “big
waters”;
they form an
arch of more
than 3 km with
275 falls almost
80 m high. The
most impressive
falls are the
Salto Unión
or Garganta
del Diablo.
The Waterfalls
are a unique
sight, a gift
of nature. We
invite you to
enjoy them.
On the Argentinean
side you will
be able to walk
along the different
falls following
the lower path
or from the
upper path you
will be able
to see how the
water falls,
you can make
short trips
in boats to
get closer to
the falls or
you can visit
the jungle and
live the unforgettable
experience of
looking out
of the Garganta
del Diablo.
On the Brazilian
side, you will
be able to see
them at large
surrounded by
an incomparable
landscape. Besides,
there are other
cultural attractions
in the province
of Misiones
such as the
ruins of San
Ignacio- |
